Blog

By Dominic Mulligan on Saturday, February 18, 2012 - 00:29

You may have noticed that there has not yet been a TGIF for this week. This time, though, I have an excuse. We've been planning. A lot.

Last week we were contacted by InTechno, a technology blog based out of Los Angeles. They saw our Exploring Tech beta episode, and had some ideas. We've been furiously working for the past few days, and are extremely excited to let you know what's been going on.

Mulligan Media is extremely proud to announce that we'll be partnering with InTechno to create our latest podcast. The new show, also known as 'InTechno' will be a weekly digest of all that is important in the technology world, brought to you in an easy to consume format. The show will be hosted by yours truly, and will feature a whole bunch of stories from the InTechno site.

If you'd like to read the full press release, it's available for download below. Or, you can just go straight on to the first episode of the show, and make sure you subscribe to the podcast to get it dleivered to you as soon as new episodes become live.

Note: Special announcement! Exploring Tech has become InTechno. Check out the blog post for details!

Some of you may remember a little tech blog we ran back in 2010 called "Exploring Tech". Well, the domain name's been sitting gathering cobwebs for a few years now, and we thought that it was about time to reboot the site. But, instead of doing a blog, we're thinking of creating a weekly news show around the name. Here's our first 'beta episode' - what do you think? Give us your feedback in either the comments below, or on the YouTube page!

We've been looking at the stats, and it appears that a few of you are visiting video pages, and leaving as soon as an ad plays. Sadly, and although it's not much, we do need the ad revenue to support the network, but we don't like the idea of people being turned off as soon as they come to a video page.

In relation to ads, there are a few things we can't do. We don't control the content of the ads at this time, and we can't can't control their length. We also can't remove ads completely, as they help to pay for this whole thing, and we can't do it without the cash.

So, what are your suggestions for how we could improve in this area?

This was taken from the Mulligan Media Forums, where it was posted by me (orismology)

As long as there's been content, someone's wanted to pirate it. From books, to music, to television, software, movies and videos, people have wanted to copy it. It's quite clear to us the piracy will always exist.

“at the end of the day, I'll let someone copy my content until the cows come home if the alternative is sending a regular joe to jail”

If you can watch it, you can copy it. While all of our current content is already available for free with no restrictions, we have not rulled out the possibility of paid products in the past. if they get popular, there's a chance they will be pirated. While we don't like that possibility, we regard it as another risk of doing business.

Copyright exists for a good reason. As content creators, we have the right to control how our content is used. Unfortunately, copyright laws around the world have gotten out of hand. The image of mickey mouse is 84 years old, and still under copyright. That's ridiculous.

We support the notion of copyright, but its current implementation is flawed. SOPA/PIPA etc are not fixes for copyright or effective ways to combat piracy. They are violations of common sense. Copyright infringement is not theft - it's copyright infringement, nothing more. With the exception of commercial, large-scale piracy, it shouldn't be a criminal offence.

Punish people if you want. If you're a movie studio, sue someone for downloading a movie - that's your right. But sue them for the 19.95 the actually cost you, not thousands. and certainly don't give someone jail time for downloading a song.

Because at the end of the day, I'll let someone copy my content until the cows come home if the alternative is sending a regular joe to jail.

We are listening to your feedback for our Programming Survey, and have just recently added a new option to our website.

You can now subscribe to most of our shows via RSS. This means that you can have your favourite shows automatically delivered to your computer or device as soon as they appear on Mulligan Media. You can subscribe through a variety of different podcatchers (such as Miro and Zune) with a one-click button, or copy the direct feed URL and give it to your feedreader.

Important Note: If you are going to be using the direct URL, make sure your podcatcher registers the URL given to you, and not the URL it redirects to.

To subscribe to a show, simply click on one of it's episodes. You'll see a new option underneath the option to subscribe by either RSS or iTunes. Click the RSS button for complete subscribe options.

Have fun, and keep watching!

Hey everyone!

As we come to the pointy end of our first real year of serious programming, I'd like to ask you to take a few minutes to fill out our programming survey. It shouldn't take too long, and it really helps us cater the site for what you guys want. We've already had a few responses, and the feedback has already been really interesting.

In fact, I'd like to respond to one quick thing now. One of the survey questions asks about now distribution platforms that we could publish to. A few people wrote 'YouTube' in this field. As it turns out, we do already have a YouTube account. We don't tend to advertise it as much as we do our site, but almost all of our videos are avaliable at our YouTube channel, and we're working on uploading eerything to it ASAP.

So, thanks for the feedback guys! And if you'd like to have your say, take a few minutes to give us your thoughts.

Hey everyone! Due to some unrelated time constraints, I won't have time to produce any new content for the next two weeks. Sorry about that. Shows will resume on
